Article: Horse welfare initiative announced

Industry heavyweights have joined forces to announce a strategy to develop a national horse welfare regime, however, Racing Victoria says it is keen to focus on its own programs.

Thoroughbred Breeders Australia, the Australian Trainers' Association and the Australian Jockeys' Association, along with other stakeholders including champion trainer Chris Waller, revealed on Saturday they have established the Independent Working Group to deal with equine welfare.

The group says it will review the current welfare landscape in Australia, look to world's best practice, consult with participants in the industry, and draw upon the learnings from other animal industries…
