Q&As

Why is this being driven by participants?

Many of the main drivers of this national welfare reform agenda – breeders, trainers, jockeys and owners – are all involved directly in the care of horses and have a common interest in their wellbeing.

We believe participants have a responsibility to show leadership on difficult issues that impact upon our industry, hence why Thoroughbred Breeders Australia, the Australian Trainers’ Association and the Australian Jockeys’ Association are working in collaboration to commission the important work of TAWWG project.

When will the TAWWG make its recommendations?

The panel have been asked to deliver their final report and recommendations in spring 2020.

Will the TAWWG panel have to commission research separately?

There may be areas of research that the panel feel it necessary to have in order to inform their recommendations. There will be enough resources available to ensure that this can be commissioned.

What happens to the TAWWGs recommendations?

The TAWWG will present its findings to the steering group, and then its final report to the state racing authorities, Racing Australia and industry participants. The final report will also be provided to the Federal Minister for Sport, the Federal Agriculture Minister and State and Territory Racing and Agriculture Ministers.
