Article: Panel set to ask tough questions

An expert panel is asking a number of tough questions it hopes will shape equine welfare in Australia, including posing whether there should be a reduction in the number of races and whether it’s acceptable to euthanise ex-race horses.

Foal crop sizes are also questioned as well as whether Australia should create ‘’enforceable standards of cares for horses’’.

The Thoroughbred Aftercare Welfare Working Group, set up early this year, released a white paper today that they hope will create ‘’the best methods of protecting the health and wellbeing of all thoroughbred horses’’.
